Passing On a Legacy to Someone you Love
Portraiture is my avenue of expertise. It is my passion. Even as a child, I entered contests with faces I tried to copy. I gravitated towards and loved any art projects. My appreciation of the process of painting evolved during my studies during High School and College.
After graduating from the School of Fine Art at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., my interest grew ever more towards portraiture. Always intriguing me was the fact that all faces have the same four main features and yet all look different . The subtle differences that portray the subjects’ individuality and manifest their unique personalities is the ultimate challenge. There’s nothing more exhilarating than capturing the innocence of a child’s face or the strength of an adults’.
Fourty years ago I relocated in Florida with my husband and two sons. Although busy with the joys of child rearing and homemaking, my interest in creating art never waned. Ten years at Pasco Hernando College began my teaching career. I have continued teaching for thirty years since. I believe that my skills have been honed by demonstrating my work and critiquing the efforts of others.
Although I prefer the intimacy of working with a live model, most of my portraits are completed with photographed subjects and are used as gifts. I use a wide range of media for my portraits, primarily oil, but also pastel, charcoal, and colored pencil, as the customer prefers. I am bold yet sensitive, loose yet realistic, with strength of color and contrast.
To continue my education, I studied under Thomas Nash, Allen Banks, Helen Van Wyk, Diane Kesske Susan Daffinee, and Fred Conway. I have been published in the 4th Vol. of the Artists of Florida and am listed in the Cambridge Who’s Who. Associations with galleries and art shows have also promoted my work, giving me many awards and opportunities to hang my work in various public buildings. I was commissioned to paint two outdoor murals, both featuring pioneer doctors of their respective cities.
